Sequence of actions when obtaining a visa

1. Receive notification of crossing the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan

After crossing the state border, foreign citizens, on the first day of entry into the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan (including weekends and holidays), must appear at the Office for International Cooperation.

2. Registration in the visa and migration portal of the Republic of Kazakhstan vmp.gov.kz or on the E-Qonaq portal eqonaq.kz

For countries with a visa regime:

  • passport and a copy of the passport with a mark on crossing the state border and visa;
  • an extract from the order of enrollment, transfer from course to course, or a certificate stating that you are a student;
  • notarized written consent of the apartment owner or a certificate from the dormitory.

For countries with visa-free regime:

  • passport and a copy of the passport with a mark on crossing the state border and visa;
  • an extract from the order of enrollment, transfer from course to course or a certificate stating that you are a student;
  • notarized written consent of the apartment owner or a certificate from the hostel;
  • certificate of fingerprint registration.

3. Control of residence of foreign citizens at their registered place of residence

Every foreign citizen must reside at a registered place of residence. A discrepancy between the actual residential address and the address specified during registration is a violation of migration legislation.

4. Applying for a Study Visa

An invitation is issued to foreign citizens to obtain a C9 study visa through the Office for International Cooperation.

The invitation is issued by the migration police of Ust-Kamenogorsk within 5 working days, and the review period can be extended to 30 days.

5. Extension of Study Visa

Extension of a visa is carried out 15 calendar days before the expiration of the visa through the Office of International Cooperation.

Extension of a study visa is carried out for 1 year.

If your passport expires, you must renew it in advance at the Consular Service Department (120 days before the visa expiration date).

To extend a study visa, foreign students must submit at least 15 days before the expiration of the study visa:

*Ethnic Kazakhs are exempt from state fees for visa applications and extensions

 

To extend a work visa, foreign citizens must submit at least 15 days before the expiration of the work visa:

  • passport and copy of passport and visa;
  • a copy of the employment contract;
  • a copy of the rector's order on admission to the position;
  • receipt of payment of the state fee at the time of submission of documents;
  • visa application form with 3x4 photo;
  • notarized consent of the apartment owner or a certificate from the academy dormitory (hotel) (at the place of temporary residence).

Foreign citizens must promptly renew their visa through the Office of International Cooperation, or leave the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan 10 days before the expiration date of the visa.

6. Registration of IIN

Acceptance of documents and issuance of an IIN certificate is carried out free of charge at the NJSC “State Corporation “Government for Citizens” at the place of residence (PSC).

Required documents:

  • application for registration of IIN
  • passport of a foreign citizen.

If the passport does not contain the spelling of the full name and place of birth in Cyrillic or Latin, the applicant must attach a translation of the document certified by a notary.

7. Registration of temporary residence permit

Temporary residence permit (TRP) is a document issued to foreigners or stateless persons temporarily staying in the Republic of Kazakhstan. A temporary residence permit replaces a visa of the corresponding category for citizens of the countries of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan) and the CIS. Thus, EAEU citizens can stay in Kazakhstan for no more than 90 days, and in order to extend their stay in our country, they can apply for a temporary residence permit (TRP).

  • a copy of the foreigner’s identity document - passport (the original is provided for verification);
  • notarized consent of the apartment owner or a referral from the university dormitory (at the place of temporary residence);
  • an extract from the order of enrollment/transfer from course to course or a certificate stating that you are a student;
  • Certificate of notification of registration of a foreign citizen from the visa and migration portal/e-qonaq;
  • Copy of IIN;
  • Certificate of fingerprint registration.

A temporary residence permit for the purpose of study is issued for a year. After receiving a temporary residence permit, a foreign citizen is required to submit a copy of the document to the Department of Migration Service.
