The 2nd Meeting of the Steering Committee of Erasmus+ Project, IUCLAND: International university cooperation on Land protection in European-Asiatic countries with the participation of scientists from leading universities of China, the CIS and the countries of the European Union held on the 10-11th of May this year in the Column Hall of D.Serikbayev EKSTU.

One of the current environmental problems of the planet is land degradation. Under this notion, all the processes that change the soil state, deteriorate its functions are collected, which leads to a loss of fertility.

As the vice-rector for science and international cooperation Oleg Gavrilenko noted, for East Kazakhstan the issues of land degradation are primarily associated with anthropogenic contamination of soils with heavy metals and radionuclides. This leads to the fact that on fertile soils, with the current level of technology, it is not possible to grow environmentally friendly agricultural products. This problem requires completely new approaches. Therefore, the goal of the IUCLAND project is to highlight this problem and give a start to academic and scientific activities in this direction. The meeting will be an important milestone in the implementation of the project. Representatives of universities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Italy, Slovakia, Croatia and others take part in it.

At the end of the meeting, an excursion around the university took place.
