On April 27, mathematics Olympiad "Zhas mathematician" for pupils of 9th, 10th, 11th grades of rural schools took place in D. Serikbayev EKSTU. The Olympics was dedicated to the memory of Tursynbek Zhantasov, a mathematician and the first Dean of the Faculty with the Kazakh language of training.

Tursynbek Zhantasov spent 44 years teaching at the university. The first years of work at the institute were connected with the Department of Higher Mathematics as a senior lecturer, associate professor, professor. Further his professional experience included the work as the Head of the Department with the state language of training. And since 1995 - the Dean of the ewly established faculty with the Kazakh language of training.

In memory of a worthy citizen of our republic, a teacher of D. Serikbayev EKSTU, Tursynbek Zhantasov, and since 2012 a mathematical Olympiad for pupils of our region is being held.

This year, 108 pupils participated in the Olympiad. The welcoming speech was delivered by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Saule Rakhmetullina. A video about the life of Tursynbek Zhantasov was shown to the pupils. Teachers of the university, teachers and parents of pupils also took part in the opening. The jury of the mathematical Olympiad included teachers of the Department of Higher Mathematics.

The main goal of the Olympiad is to identify and develop intellectual creative abilities, create the necessary conditions for supporting gifted children of rural schools in the field of mathematics.

The final results of the Olympiad are as follows:

9 grades

• 1 place - Sergey Rogozin (KSU "Menovnovsk secondary school")
• 2nd place - Ayazhan Ashepova (K.Bilyalov's Gymnasium-boarding school)
• 3rd place - Nurbolat Zharys (K.Bilalov's Gymnasium-boarding school)

10 grades

• 1st place - Nazar Tuleukhanov (K.Bilalov's Gymnasium-boarding school)
• 2nd place - Shyraylym Dauitanova (KSU "S.Lastayev High School")
• 3 place - Burahanova Togzhan (KSU "Akhmerovsk secondary school")

11 grades

• 1 place - Igor Shatrov (KSU "Menovnovsk secondary school")
• 2nd place - Aybolat Yelshinov (KSU "Ushanov High School")

Participants who won prizes were awarded with diplomas of I, II, III degree and cash prizes. And the most active of them were awarded with extra prizes. Also, the teachers, who prepared the winners, were awarded with prizes.
