Project abstract

The research project is aimed at studying a new socio-economic trend that originated at the beginning of the XXI century – the economy of shared consumption, which promotes more efficient use of resources, reduction of environmental burden, development of infrastructure for an environmentally friendly lifestyle and, ultimately, sustainable development. Modern trends in the digitalization of the economy open up new opportunities for the formation of a shared consumption economy, reducing transaction costs through the use of Internet platforms connecting various community members (buyers and sellers or users and suppliers), which emphasizes the high-tech and innovative nature of this model of economy.

As a result of the conducted research, scientifically-based practical recommendations will be developed on the formation of new opportunities for solving social, economic and environmental problems associated with increasing the efficiency of resource use, as well as the release of underutilized assets. Thus, this study will make it possible to fill the existing gaps in scientific research, analyzing the potential for the formation of a shared consumption economy in Kazakhstan and its impact on the achievement of individual national Sustainable Development Goals.

The implementation of the project will contribute to the achievement of the following types of effects:

  • scientific and technical, expressed in the development of a digital society;
  • social, manifested in the reduction of socio-economic inequality between different groups of the population;
  • economic, which involves reducing costs, increasing entrepreneurial activity in potential sectors of the sharing economy;
  • ecological, consisting in improving the environmental situation, justified by a more rational use of available resources;
  • multiplicative, achieved through the transformation of business processes in traditional industries.

The integrated use of the results of the study will give impetus to the development of the sectors of the economy of shared consumption in Kazakhstan, and will also contribute to improving the efficiency of resource use, decarbonization, the development of digital technologies, will serve as a driver of economic growth and transition of Kazakhstan to the trajectory of sustainable development.

The aim of the project is to develop scientifically based practical recommendations on the implementation of the principles of the sharing economy in Kazakhstan to achieve sustainable development goals based on research of foreign experience, studying domestic opportunities, institutional and market factors.
