On November 21, 2024, the results of the inaugural Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, conducted by Times Higher Education in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows, were announced.

According to the rankings, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKSTU) once again confirmed its leading position, taking 1st place in Kazakhstan and being ranked 601+ globally!

It is noteworthy that only nine universities from Kazakhstan made it into the rankings, with just three being listed in the 601+ global range. The remaining Kazakhstani universities were included with the status of "Reporter."

The ranking of the best universities for interdisciplinary scientific research is a project developed by Times Higher Education in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows. It uses 11 indicators to measure university performance across three main areas:

  • Investment (funding);
  • Process (measures of success, infrastructure, administrative support, and promotion);
  • Outcomes (publications, research quality, and reputation).

The ranking aims to enhance scientific excellence and collaboration among universities, helping institutions evaluate their interdisciplinary scientific work. Bridging traditionally narrow academic disciplines is widely seen as a critical way to drive scientific breakthroughs and address some of the world's most pressing challenges.

The organizers highlighted the high level of participation in the first interdisciplinary science ranking: 749 universities from 92 countries and territories were included, making it the largest debut ranking by THE. This underscores the importance and growing interest in interdisciplinary science.

Congratulations to the entire D. Serikbayev EKSTU team! Wishing our university continued success and fruitful development!
