The competence center «Smart engineering» was created on the basis of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University for the development of smart engineering and import substitution technologies in the engineering industry and the mining and metallurgical complex.

The main goals of the Center's work are the digital transformation of the engineering industry, reducing the technological gap with developed countries, reducing import dependence and the cost of complex technological equipment, and increasing technological safety. Attracting, maintaining and expanding industrial participation, attracting wider support from industrial, academic and government stakeholders.

On the basis of the Center, smart engineering technologies are being developed - obtaining digital data, creating digital twins, engineering analysis, reverse engineering, development and manufacturing of components and parts of complex non-standard equipment.

The Competence Center «Smart engineering» included the Scientific Production Complex «Prototyping and Processing of Materials», created in 2017 on the basis of the East Kazakhstan Technical University named after D. Serikbayev as part of the implementation of the Targeted Scientific and Technical Program of EKSTU named after. D. Serikbaev, focused on the development of new types of products for production at the leading industrial enterprises of the East Kazakhstan region (projects of Program-targeted financing «Issue of titanium products for further use in medicine», «Issue of titanium products for the oil and gas industry», «Development of production technology medical products from tantalum and niobium», «Development of technology for the production of superconducting wire for MRI»).
